The health insurance contribution is a statutory payment that is remitted to Kela via the Finnish Tax Administration. The payment is used to fund, for example, sickness allowance and parental allowances. In 2026, the health insurance contribution is 1,91 % of salary.

The health insurance contribution is not charged to all users. Whether it is charged depends on whether you are liable for YEL insurance.

If you have not completed the YEL test in the app and your invoicing does not exceed the lower threshold for YEL insurance (9 423,09 € in 2026), the health insurance contribution is not withheld from your salary.

Please note that if your invoicing exceeds the lower threshold for YEL insurance, the health insurance contribution is activated automatically. In that case, based on your invoicing, you are in principle liable for YEL insurance, and the health insurance contribution must be charged in accordance with the law.
