Sole proprietorship without the paperwork

A sole proprietorship as easy as light entrepreneurship

With Truster's sole proprietorship (toiminimi) service, you run your business under your own Business ID (Y-tunnus), but your day-to-day stays just as effortless as for a light entrepreneur. When you order the service, we open a Business ID on your behalf — or fetch your existing one into our system — and automatically register your sole proprietorship for advance withholding and VAT. All you need to do is approve the suomi.fi authorization, which gives us permission to handle things for you. A new Business ID typically opens within 1–2 business days, and you can track the progress of your order right on the app's home screen.

You don't need your own bank account for the business. Your customer pays the invoice into Truster's client funds account, from which we withhold VAT, advance tax based on the tax rate you've set, and our service fee — and transfer the rest to your personal account as a private withdrawal. All the money that lands in your account is yours to use: you'll never face a situation where you have to pay part of your withdrawals to the tax authority afterwards.

Getting started is free, and under the commission model you pay nothing for months with no invoicing. If you already have a dormant Business ID or are switching to us from an accounting firm, we'll handle the transfer and any necessary registrations — your bookkeeping continues seamlessly.

Why run a sole proprietorship with Truster?

Your own Business ID brings the benefits of entrepreneurship: you can take on assignments that require a Business ID — platform work and subcontracting, for example — and deduct the VAT on your own purchases. Behind the scenes, Truster keeps single-entry, cash-basis bookkeeping: income and expenses are recorded as they occur, and you track them in real time through the app's reports.

Official filings are taken care of for you: we prepare and pay your VAT returns according to your tax period, and file your annual business tax return (Form 5) by the deadline. You scan receipts with the app — every receipt is checked by us before the VAT and tax filings, so your bookkeeping holds up to scrutiny.

Maksuvahti automatically keeps watch over your invoices: it tracks payments, sends your customer payment reminders after the due date, and sends the invoice to collections if needed. You never have to chase payments yourself — your withdrawal is paid out as soon as the payment reaches us.

You get your money flexibly: normally, a private withdrawal is paid once your customer has paid the invoice. With HetiPalkka you get the funds even before the invoice is paid (5% extra fee), and with Pikamaksu the withdrawal lands in your account immediately after payment, with no waiting for bank processing days (€25).

Receipts record themselves

Scan a receipt — Truster reads the amount and VAT for you.

Pricing

Choose a commission or a fixed monthly price — switch whenever you like.

Commission

3.99% of invoicing

You only pay when you invoice. Suited to seasonal entrepreneurship.

  • No monthly fee
  • Bookkeeping and VAT handled

No hidden fees. You can switch pricing models at any time. Note: your monthly subscription must be active before you start the invoiced work and on the payment date — otherwise a 3.99% commission is charged on the invoice.

Taxes and VAT — how it works

You set a tax rate in the app, and we withhold advance tax at that rate from every invoice and remit the accumulated taxes to the tax authority on your behalf. You can track your income from the income statement and update the rate as often as you like throughout the year. If the Tax Administration has assigned you your own advance tax payments, set the rate in the app to 0% — this way taxes aren't paid twice.

We collect VAT from your invoices and report and pay it to the Tax Administration according to your tax period — sole proprietorships opened through us have a quarterly tax period. All our users are VAT-registered, which works in your favor: being registered lets you deduct the VAT on your own work-related purchases, such as a computer or tools. Returns go out on time even for periods with no activity.

Clear figures every month

Always see what you've earned and which taxes and VAT have been accounted for.

Protection and social security

Truster Turva brings insurance coverage to your work: liability insurance covers personal injury and property damage you cause on the job, legal expenses insurance covers legal costs from work-related disputes, and accident insurance protects against accidents at work. The insurance is valid whenever you invoice through Truster. Turva also includes an extensive contract library — for example, a ready-made assignment agreement template you can use to agree on the terms of a job in writing before work begins.

YEL pension insurance applies to every entrepreneur once the conditions are met: you're 18–68 years old, you've worked as an entrepreneur continuously for at least four months, and your estimated annual income from work exceeds the statutory threshold (€9,423.09 in 2026). Your YEL income determines your pension as well as your sickness and parental allowances. You can see your income directly from the app's income statement, and you can arrange your YEL insurance easily through Truster — if the income threshold has you wondering, our customer service will check your situation.

Who is a sole proprietorship right for?

A sole proprietorship with Truster suits full-time entrepreneurs and anyone whose assignments require a Business ID — food couriers, delivery drivers and subcontractors, for example. It's a natural next step once your invoicing as a light entrepreneur becomes steady: you move from one Truster service to another, and your customers, invoices and history come along with you. And if you later want the money paid directly into your own bank account, our Own Account service gives you full control — while bookkeeping still runs automatically.

Frequently asked questions about sole proprietorships

What does it cost to set up a sole proprietorship?

Nothing: opening a Business ID and getting started with the service are free. Only if you don't invoice at all, or move your invoicing and bookkeeping elsewhere within six months, may the standard activation fee (€140) be charged.

How does the €59/mo monthly subscription work?

With a monthly subscription, you invoice at a fixed price with no commission. Important: the subscription must already be active before the invoiced work begins, and also on the payment date — otherwise a 3.99% commission is charged on the invoice. You can switch pricing models or cancel the subscription at any time.

I already have a Business ID — can I use the service?

Yes. A Business ID is personal, so we fetch your existing ID into our system once you've placed your order and completed the suomi.fi authorization. If your sole proprietorship has been dormant, we reactivate it, and if you're switching from an accounting firm, we handle the transfer based on your starting information.

Do I need my own bank account for the business?

No, you don't need one. Your customer pays the invoice into Truster's client funds account, from which we withhold VAT, advance tax and our service fee — the rest is transferred to your personal account as a private withdrawal. If you'd like the money paid into your own business account instead, check out our Own Account service.

What is a private withdrawal?

A sole proprietor doesn't pay themselves a salary; instead they withdraw money from the business for private use — hence the term private withdrawal. At Truster, withdrawals are paid to your account already processed: statutory payments have already been deducted, so everything that lands in your account is yours to use.

How is my bookkeeping handled?

We use single-entry, cash-basis bookkeeping: income and expenses are recorded as they occur. We prepare and pay your VAT returns each tax period and file your annual business tax return. You can track your figures through the app's reports.

How does taxation work?

You set a tax rate in the app, and we withhold advance tax at that rate from every invoice and remit the taxes to the tax authority. You can update the rate at any time. If the tax authority has sent you advance tax bills directly, set the rate to 0% so taxes aren't paid twice.

What is Maksuvahti?

Maksuvahti is an automatic service that tracks whether your invoices get paid, sends your customer payment reminders after the due date, and sends the invoice to collections if needed. You don't have to worry about chasing payments — your withdrawal is paid out as soon as the payment reaches us.

What is Truster Turva?

Truster Turva is an insurance package that's active whenever you invoice through Truster: liability insurance, legal expenses insurance and accident insurance. Turva also includes a comprehensive contract library and rotating partner benefits.

When do I need YEL insurance?

You need YEL once you're 18–68 years old, have worked as an entrepreneur continuously for at least four months, and your estimated annual income from work exceeds the statutory threshold (€9,423.09 in 2026). Remember to include income you've invoiced as a light entrepreneur too. You can arrange YEL easily through Truster.

Do I need to register in the Trade Register?

For most sole proprietors, registering in the Trade Register is optional. It's mandatory only if you hire outside employees, operate in a licensed field, or have a permanent business premises. Registering is worthwhile if you want exclusive rights to your business name — you file the notification yourself at YTJ.fi (€70).
