What fields of work can't be invoiced as a light entrepreneur?

Updated

Light entrepreneurship suits almost any kind of work, but there are a few exceptions where legislation or established practice requires your own company with a Y-tunnus (Business ID) (a sole trader (toiminimi) or an Oy).

Restrictions generally apply to

  1. Licensed industries: For example, healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses) with certain restrictions, security companies, or licensed taxi operations.
  2. Large-scale goods trading: If you buy and sell goods in large volumes (e-commerce), light entrepreneurship isn't suitable for VAT reasons.
  3. Licensed restaurants/bars serving alcohol: Require their own licenses.

Most service industries (construction, cleaning, consulting, media, IT), however, are a perfect fit. If you're unsure about your field, ask our customer service!
