Adding receipts

How to use the receipt scanner
Every lost receipt is tax paid for nothing. That's why we made adding receipts so easy that you can do it from your living room sofa or right there in the petrol station forecourt.
With the Truster app's receipt scanner, you snap a photo of a paper receipt or upload a digital receipt to your bookkeeping in seconds.
Remember the golden rule: One receipt per photo.
Don't try to fit a whole week's receipts into the same photo — photograph each one separately. This way you make sure your deductions go through.
How to add a receipt (in under a minute):
- Open the app's Menu and select Receipts.
- Tap the + button in the bottom-right corner.
- Choose whether you want to take a new photo or upload a file from your phone.
- Snap the photo or select the file.
- Tap Save.
"Why doesn't my receipt show as approved right away?"
No need to worry! Once saved, the receipt moves into a queue where our accountants review it. We might not approve receipts the same day, but we guarantee that every receipt is reviewed and approved in good time before your next VAT return or tax return.
What counts as a valid receipt? (And what doesn't)
For the tax authorities to approve an expense as deductible, the receipt must include certain mandatory details. A blurry photo or just the final total won't do you any good.
A valid receipt clearly shows:
✅ The seller's name, address, and Y-tunnus
✅ The purchase date
✅ What was purchased (the name of the product or service)
✅ The price (itemised into the amount including tax and excluding tax)
✅ The VAT rate (e.g. 24% or 25,5%)
❌ Warning: A screenshot from your online bank is NOT a receipt
We're constantly asked: "Is a screenshot of a payment from my online bank enough?"
Short answer: No, it's not enough.
Your online bank statement only shows that money has moved. It doesn't reveal what you bought or what the VAT portion of the purchase was. Without this information, we can't record the expense in your bookkeeping, meaning you lose the tax benefit. So always ask for a proper receipt!
